Minutes for the November 2021 Meeting

Central Oklahoma Polymer Clay Guild, Minutes for November 20, 2021

The guild met on Saturday, November 20, at 1:30 pm, for the first time in our new meeting place at Crown Heights Church of the Nazarene, 920 NW46TH, in Oklahoma City. Internet access was good, and we were able to log into Zoom for the benefit of several members who could not attend in person. Six were present in person: Betty, Betty’s daughter, Connie, Jane, Mark, and Lee Ann.  In addition, four attended remotely on Zoom: Lori, Kathy, Myra, and Shirley.

Old business:

  • Retreat: We will not have another retreat until 2023.
  • Lack of attendance and dwindling membership were discussed. Ideas to boost membership were:
    • Doing demos – We discussed asking Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and JoAnn’s whether they would allow us to do demonstrations since they all carry polymer clay. It was suggested that Hobby Lobby might allow us to do demos on the sidewalk in front of a store and possibly making it possible for those interested to sign up for membership.
    • Placing notices in libraries
    • Shirley volunteered to send public service announcements to local NPR stations but said it would be better wait until we begin to have regular programs again.

New Business: There was no new business.

Programs: Jane presented a short Christmas project. We are reluctant to ask people to present programs until our attendance comes back up. Meanwhile, we have been asking everyone to bring something to work on and share tips with other members.

Respectfully submitted,

Shirley Conaway

November 2021 Meeting

The November Meeting will be held at 1:30 pm on November 20, 2021, at the Crown Heights Church of the Nazarene, 920 NW 46th St., OKC (map). The church is located just off of Western on 46th St and is easy to access from both I-44 and I-235. There are four doors on the west (parking lot) side of the building. Please enter through the last door toward the back of the building. Signs will be posted to help direct you. Watch your step as you enter!

Here’s the November guild meeting program…

Play in Clay

Bring a project on which you are working or would like to work on.  If you need help/advice on any project, this would be a good place to have others help.  Not to mention we can all learn, be inspired, and have fun.

I will also be bringing a quick Christmas project.   I do mean quick.  It will not take long but you could be taking home a finished holiday project and still have time to work on your own project.

In addition to your own project, if you want to do a quicky Christmas project bring:
1/2  oz  (or your choice color) Red clay  for poinsettia
pea size leaf green clay
pea size yellow clay
1 skein of green 6 strand embroidery floss  (or your choice color)
scissors
work surface
Favorite clay tools

Minutes for the October 2021 Meeting

  • by

Minutes October 16, 2021

  • The meeting was held at Betty’s house, with four members present (Lee Ann, Betty, Connie, and Jane), and three on Zoom, (Myra, Shirley, and Penni Jo). There were no visitors.
  • Old Business:
    • Meeting space: The group discussed the possibility of meeting at Betty’s church and decided to tentatively plan on meeting there in November, if Betty receives official approval. If it works out, the address will be sent to all members in the November meeting notice.  There would likely be no storage space available to the guild. Currently, the group’s library is stored at Betty’s house.
  • Reports:
    • Treasurer: Lee Ann reported our treasury total and we currently have 11 paid members.
    • Programs: November’s program is to be announced. December will be our Christmas party.
    • Party Chair: Connie will arrange the Christmas party. Each member is asked to create a polymer clay item for the gift exchange.
    • State Fair: Members showed their entries. There is a new coordinator who seems open to our supplying our own judge next year.
    • Retreat: due to COVID, our next retreat will not be until 2023. WE need someone to chair the retreat committee. There was some discussion of changing the month we hold it, but nothing was decided.
