Saturday August 14th, 2010-Deco Clay Flowers

Hello Clayers, It’s that time again! Our next meeting will be Saturday August 14, 2010 *at *1:00 *at the new *Hobby Lobby store -2650 S Service Rd, Moore, OK- (405) 912-8100. We will be having a truly interesting and fun class this Saturday! Our own Nance Ross will be teaching us how to make lovely life like flowers from an air dry clay called Deco Clay. These flower making techniques can also be adapted and modified for polymer clay. Nance learned these techniques from the people who developed the clay. Nance had graciously purchased all the supplies for us and suggests that we **bring a small pair of scissors, a tray on which to work that is waterproof as we shall be working with damp towels, and maybe a spray bottle. If everyone could bring $2.00 to help defray the cost of the supplies, I know Nance would appreciate it. Nance states that she will have the clay, little dishes in which we shall build our little arrangements, a spray bottle, toothpicks (major “tool” of choice for working with Deco Clay) a mold for making the foundation leaves, fillers (plastic sprays) to go between our flowers, and the towels.

Nance told me that “This clay cannot be entered in the Polymer Clay area of the State Fair, because it is not a plastic product….it is made of a secret formula that includes wood fiber, and was invented by a Japanese family in Hawaii…..and can be purchased on line from Piecemakers in Costa Mesa….and from Hawaii….but I am sure no one will want to pay the shipping from the Islands! See everyone on Saturday…..with clean hands ready to use them as the major tools for working Deco Clay! “

August is swap month and the August swap item is anything made using a technique learned at guild.

Don’t forget to bring a suggestion for a book, magazine or DVD to add to our amazing library.

Also Nance states that she has a bunch of bottles for Bottles of Hope, so hope people will be willing to take two or three so that in the fall we can donate to some of the local hospitals. We have several finished ones on hand, but can always use more, so I shall have some with me on Saturday for anyone interested to take.

Jane showed the hand sculpted gum paste figures sculpted by herself and Penni Jo for Christian’s birthday cake. Lee Ann brought a beautiful necklace and wonderful two pins. Nance showed a lovely thisle ring. . April brought hollow vessels and hearts that blew us away.

4. Program~~ Pinched Petal Necklace — We made canes from the colors we identified in our last meeting from the book Polymer Clay Color Inspirations.
