November 2024 Meeting: Mosaics

  • by

Explore the Art of Polymer Clay Mosaics!

This month, we’re diving into polymer clay mosaics, a versatile and stunning technique that lets you craft everything from intricate jewelry to colorful home décor. Whether you’re drawn to classic tile designs, abstract patterns, or something entirely unique, this meeting is your chance to experiment and create.

There’s no formal instructor this month, so bring your imagination and let your creativity lead the way! For inspiration, check out the collection of mosaic photos below. While these aren’t polymer clay, they could certainly be replicated with clay.

Suggested Supplies:

  • Clay: Any colors you love—small amounts of multiple colors are great for “tiles.”
  • Cutters: Tiny square, triangle, or irregular shapes to mimic tiles (or use a blade for freehand cutting).
  • Texture tools: Stamps, texture sheets, or household items like lace for adding detail.
  • Base: A surface to apply your mosaic, such as pendant blanks, coasters, small dishes, or a clay slab.
  • Adhesive or liquid clay: To secure tiles if they’re not baked directly onto the base.
  • Grouting material: Optional—use colored clay, mica powders, or acrylic paint to fill gaps between tiles.
  • Tools: Pasta machine, blade, work surface, and needle tools.
  • Optional accents: Metallic or pearl clay, alcohol inks, microbeads, or glitter.
  • Pattern (optional): If you want to follow a specific design, bring a line drawing or simple pattern to guide your work.
